I am an oceanographer, researching interactions between the ocean, ice and atmosphere around Antarctica.
The polar oceans play a vital role in the climate system. Oceans store vast amounts of heat. Where this heat comes into contact with Antarctic ice shelves, there is an increase in melt rates. This has global impacts for changes in large-scale circulation and sea level rise. Understanding the polar oceans is therefore crucial for understanding how our climate will evolve in the future.
I am currently using both ocean models and observations, to investigate how warm water is transported towards the coast along the West Antarctic Peninsula.
